In the recent (2019) revision of the SI units that anchors the system in a set of defined constants (see this section), the value of the gas constant R is now exact, being the product of the Avogardro constant NA and the Boltzmann constant k,
R = NA × k,
where NA = 6.022 140 76 × 1023 mol-1 (exact)
and k = 1.380 649 × 10-23 J K-1 (exact),
resulting in the exact values listed below:
R = 8.314 462 61815 Pa m3 K-1 mol-1
= 8314.462 618 15 Pa L K-1 mol-1
= 0.0831 446 1815 bar L K-1 mol-1
This table gives the appropriate value of R for use in the ideal gas equation, PV = nRT, when the variables are expressed in other units. The change from the previously accepted value of R is in the seventh significant figure and for all practical purposes has resulted in no changes to this table. The following conversion factors for pressure units were used in generating the table.
