This table gives the index of refraction n of several inorganic substances, including a few elements, in the liquid state. The measurements refer to ambient atmospheric pressure except for substances whose normal boiling points are greater than the indicated temperature; in this case the pressure is the saturated vapor pressure of the substance. All values refer to a wavelength of 589 nm unless otherwise indicated in a footnote. Column definitions for the table are as follows.
